IF A TREE FALLS is a rare behind-the-curtain take a look at the Earth Liberation Entrance, the novel environmental group that the FBI calls America’s ‘primary home terrorist threat.’ With unprecedented access and a nuanced point of view, the documentary tells the story of Daniel McGowan, an ELF member who faced life in jail for two multi-million greenback arsons against Oregon timber corporations. The movie employs McGowan’s story to examine larger questions about environmentalism, activism, and terrorism.
"If A Tree Falls," is a documentary concerning the ELF (earth liberation entrance) and the fires they set in protest of the parks services, forest service, and logging. It's an interesting movie, and considerably educational. On purely technical elements alone I give it an 8.
It did an excellent job of laying out everybody and the whole lot involved, all sides, including prosecutors, legislation enforcement, environmental activists, and a few of the ELF extremists. Now for the spoiler alert. This documentary finally ends up attempting to get the viewer to weigh in on not the actual occasions, but on whether or not these persons are terrorists and need to go to a prison designed specifically for terrorists.
My reply is yes. They try to justify their unlawful actions by saying they took nice care in planning so nobody can be injured or killed. The actual fact is they deliberate and carried out a Federal crime and burnt down other individuals, and our government's property to incite a reaction. If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front Movie
They paint the main character of this film as a really nice guy, who received caught up in something dumb. Well he should have thought in regards to the consequences when he did it. In addition to, I’m positive there are quite a lot of terrorists, murders, arsonists, and so forth. world wide, that for those who asked their families, would say that their little one was "such a superb boy.
" He ended up being sentenced to 7 years in the Supermax prison for terrorists. I guess he will have plenty of time to think about it now. Arson is a severe crime that COULD have caused injury and loss of life, and I after the first fire the ELF members must be referred to as terrorists, because when you were in that space and owned a business I’m positive you would be afraid someone might burn your enterprise down at anytime..
As soon as the government gets completed with these people I certain hope they go after that adolescent Paul Watson from "Whale Wars" for piracy. The police had been solid in a bad light in this film as properly. Environmentalists, as they all the time do, tried to paint legislation enforcement as some nazi jackboot thugs.
They show folks at a Pacific Northwest location involved in a protest "sit-in," and Police wiping and spraying pepper spray in their eyes. The whole time these protesters are saying issues like,"Please don't hurt me," or," Please don't spray me. Effectively, you had been requested, then instructed to leave. When you don't go away the police have an obligation to take away you. Stop getting your panties in a bunch and go away for those who don't want to be sprayed. In any case, for technical reasons this film is a fairly good one.
